Troops of the Nigerian army on Monday, February 23, repelled an ambush orchestrated by the Lakurawa Terrorist Group (LTG) targeting the convoy of Major General Bemgha Koughna near Mayama hill, Kebbi state.
The incident occurred when Koughna, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the eighth division and commander of sector two of the north west joint task force Operation Fansan Yamma (OPFY), was travelling to visit frontline troops deployed across parts of the state.
According to the eight division spokesperson, Olaniyi Osoba, the convoy came under heavy attack from armed terrorists while moving through a volatile forested terrain.
Troops attached to the convoy responded immediately, engaging the terrorists and neutralizing five of them.
The terrorists were forced to retreat, allowing the convoy to continue its movement without reported casualties among the soldiers.
Following the firefight, soldiers carried out a sweep of the area and recovered a cache of arms, ammunition, and other items believed to belong to the fleeing terrorists.
Items recovered include one OJC gun, one PKT machine gun, two AK-47 rifles, four AK-47 magazines, a bandolier of PKT ammunition, and several rounds of 12.7mm ammunition.
Troops also seized five motorcycles, two mobile phones, and a camel bag containing ₦840,000.
Troops of the Nigerian army remain fully deployed and vigilant across the general area, sustaining operational dominance and actively working to prevent further attacks.
