Troops of 13 brigade have rescued four kidnapped victims in the Bakassi area of Cross River state on Tuesday.
The rescue took place during a routine water patrol aimed at restricting the movement of criminal groups along strategic waterways.
According to the 13 brigade spokesperson, Yemi Sokoya, in a statement on Wednesday, the troops were conducting surveillance when they intercepted armed militants moving the captives in a speedboat towards Isangele, Achibong in the Republic of Cameroon.
“Upon sighting the soldiers, the militants opened fire in an attempt to evade arrest.
“The troops immediately returned accurate and superior firepower, forcing the criminals to abandon the victims and flee into the surrounding creeks.
“Due to the swift and professional response of the troops, all four abducted victims were successfully rescued along with their belongings.
“Notably, the operation was conducted without any casualties on the part of the soldiers, further demonstrating their discipline, preparedness, and tactical effectiveness,” the statement read.
The commander of 13 brigade, Brig. Gen. P.O. Alimikhena commended the troops for their swift response and disciplined conduct.
He said the operation reflects the brigade’s operational readiness and its determination to secure riverine communities across Cross River state.
