Troops of sixth brigade under operations peace shield and Zafin Wuta have thwarted an armed robbery attack and rescued two kidnapped victims during coordinated missions across Taraba state.
The operations, conducted between 6th and 7th December 2025, aimed to enhance security along major highways and communities during the festive period.
According to the sixth brigade acting spokesperson, Lt. Umar Muhammad, in a statement on Monday, troops stationed at Manya responded to a distress call in the early hours of 6th December, about armed robbers blocking the Manya-Takum road and targeting commuters.
“The troops immediately mobilised and conducted a rapid clearance operation.
“On sighting the advancing forces, the criminals fled in disarray, abandoning their weapons.
“A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine, and three rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
“The timely intervention of the troops averted potential harm to road users and restored free movement along the route,” the statement read.
On 7th December, troops deployed at Kufai Amadu intercepted reports of an abduction involving four men from Bauchi state.
Two of the victims, identified as Yusuf Musa and Muhammed Umar, were rescued after escaping from their captors during aggressive search operations.
Efforts to locate the remaining victims, Musa Danji and Yusuf, are ongoing, while military personnel continue to track down the perpetrators.
In a separate intelligence-led mission on 6th December at Garin Sambo, Tau village in Ardo Kola local government area, soldiers recovered two pump-action guns, 13 cartridges, two motorcycles, and four mobile phones.
Two suspects, Baba Wura Sambo and Mallam Adamu Darda, were arrested in connection with the illegal possession of arms and are currently in military custody for further investigation.
Brig. Gen. Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commander of sixth brigade, praised the troops’ professionalism, gallantry, and rapid response.
He reaffirmed the army’s commitment to eradicating criminal activities across Taraba state and assured residents and commuters of enhanced security, especially during the Yuletide season.
