President of the United States (US), Donald Trump has once again renewed talks of running for a third term during a visit to the US troops stationed in Qatar on Thursday, May 15.
While addressing the troops at Al Udeid Air Base, Trump repeatedly claimed that he won the 2020 election against President Joe Biden.
He said, “We won three elections, ok? And some people want us to do a fourth.
“I don’t know. We’ll have to think about that.”
Trump referenced merchandise promoting a possible 2028 campaign, though he also hinted that the idea was mainly to provoke his political opponents.
Adding that, “The hottest hat is it says Trump 2028. We’re driving the left crazy when you see that.”
However, the 22nd Amendment to the US Constitution clearly limits presidents to two elected terms.
While Trump has previously acknowledged that he is constitutionally barred from running again, he has floated the names of Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio as possible successors.
The event had the feel of a campaign rally, despite the long-standing tradition that the US military remains politically neutral.
Trump also took a swipe at Biden stating that the former US president wouldn’t have had the endurance for a secret trip to Baghdad, Iraq like the one he made during his first term.
He also called Biden a stupid person while speaking in front of foreign dignitaries and business leaders in Doha, Qatar.
Trump wrapped up his speech to the troops with the Village People’s ‘YMCA,’ song that has become a common at his political rallies.
