Two yet-unidentified drivers reportedly struck two police officers who were conducting stop-and-search duties in the Oshodi area in Lagos State on Friday, December 29.
The incident occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. on a Friday at the 7/8 Bus Stop.
The targeted officers were in the process of flagging down a Toyota Camry and a Lexus 350 for a standard check when the situation took a violent turn.
Witnesses disclosed that upon noticing the police presence, the drivers of the two vehicles opted to evade the checkpoint by accelerating and intentionally colliding with the officers.
The consequences of this deliberate act were severe, as one of the inspectors sustained significant injuries to his head and left hand.
Shockingly, Inspector Oronya found himself caught under the wheels of both vehicles, leading to further injuries.
Disturbingly, the assailants purportedly attempted to seize the officers’ firearms after the collision. Fortunately, the quick response of their fellow officers thwarted this brazen attempt at theft.
In the aftermath of the incident, both injured officers were promptly transported to Divine Grace Hospital in Mafoluku–Oshodi to receive urgent medical attention.
Meanwhile, an ongoing investigation is underway to identify and apprehend the drivers responsible for this assault on law enforcement officers.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, is to comment on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by law enforcement officers in the line of duty and raises concerns about the attacks against those tasked with maintaining public safety.
