The Police Command in Lagos State via its public relations officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, has confirmed the electrocution of two members of staff of the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) in the state.
The incident occurred in Lagos Island.
Hundeyin said the incident was reported to the Lion Building Division of the command on Saturday at about 5.55 pm, by another member of staff of the EKEDC from Lagos Island.
He said the EKEDC worker wrote a report on how one of his colleagues known as Umaru, age 51, got electrocuted while trying to locate a faulty transformer cable at the P&T Obalende area.
Umaru added that in the process, another colleague named Sunday Awaruwa, age 48, tried to rescue the victim and also got electrocuted.
Hundeyin affirmed that detectives visited and photographed the scene, rescued the victims and rushed them to the Lagos Island General Hospital, where they were confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.
He said their remains were deposited at the IDH Morgue, Yaba for autopsy and that an investigation is in progress.
