Ukraine front line ‘keeps getting closer’ to EU, France warnsFrench Foreign Minister, Jean-Noel Barrot, said Ukraine’s “front line keeps getting closer to us,” increasing the chances that Russia’s war will reach other European nations.
“Never has the risk of a war [in the European Union] been so high … the threat keeps getting closer to us, the front line keeps getting closer to us,” he said.
The minister made the comments in an interview to France Inter radio, a day after dozens of European nations rallied around Ukraine at an emergency summit in London.
Speaking about the wave of support for Zelenskyy after his spat with Trump in the Oval Office last week, Barrot said, “what we are witnessing today is the awakening of a section of Europeans who refused to see the reality of things.”

Russia says technical issues triggered fire at Ufa refineryRussian authorities on Monday blamed a fire at the Ufimsky oil refinery, in the Russian city of Ufa, on technical issues but did not give further details.
The fire which burned overnight was doused on Monday.
“The fire is related to technical issues,” as per the initial findings, the region’s emergency ministry said on the Telegram messaging app.
Some 100 firefighters helped put the fire out.
Several Russian channels on Telegram, however, said the fire was triggered by an explosion at the refinery. These reports could not be independently verified. Meanwhile there were no reports of drone attacks in the region overnight.

What Ukrainian opinion polls say about Volodymyr ZelenskyyIgor Burdyga
US President Donald Trump on Friday falsely claimed that Zelenskyy’s popularity as taken a massive hit with opinion polls showing approvals as low as 4%.
While Trump’s number has been quickly debunked, it has brought up the question of Zelenskyy’s approval rating at home with his government claiming 65% of Ukrainians trusted their government.
The results apparently stem from a survey of 1,200 participants published last weekend by the independent Ukrainian research organization Rating Group. The study also found that roughly one-third of Ukrainians trusted Zelenskyy completely, one-third trusted him somewhat, and one-third didn’t trust the Ukrainian president at all.
This shows that attitudes towards Zelenskyy have improved for the first time since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

Ukraine says Russian drone hits Kharkiv apartment A Russian drone has struck a multi-storey apartment building in Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city.
The strike triggered a fire and injured at least eight people, including a seven-year old child, according to the city’s mayor Ihor Terekhov.
He said the fire had spread to several apartments on the top floor of the building but that none of the injured had required hospital treatment, in a post on messaging app Telegram.

Zelenskyy vows unity with the US, days after tense exchange at the White HouseUkrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in his nightly address that peace talks will take place with Ukraine, Europe and “definitely” the US.
“Of course, we understand the importance of America, and we are grateful for all the support we’ve received from the United States,” he said in a video posted to X.
“There has not been a day when we haven’t felt gratitude. It’s gratitude for the preservation of our independence – our resilience in Ukraine is based on what our partners are doing for us – and for their own security,” he said.
The statement comes days after a heated argument between Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump descended into acrimony at the White House.
Zelenskyy left the White House as the rare minerals deal with the US fell through amid the argument which began oversecurity guarantees that would be a part of peace talks with Russia.
“Everyone is united on the main issue – for peace to be real, we need real security guarantees. And this is the position of all of Europe – the entire continent. The United Kingdom, the European Union, Türkiye,” Zelenskyy said.
On Sunday, Zelenskyy said he believed he could salvage ties with the US. He dismissed the idea that the US would stop supporting Ukraine military because as “leaders of the civilized world,” he said, Washington would not want to help Russian President Vladimir Putin.
