Silas Onyima, the President-General of Umuoji Community in Anambra State’s Idemili North Local Government Area, was murdered by unknown assilants on Friday, February 23.
While specific details of the incident remain unclear, reports indicate that approximately 15 hoodlums attacked Onyima’s residence and fatally shot him. This event has instilled fear and panic within the community.
According to a source who requested anonymity, they stated, “The deceased was newly elected president general of our community and he also presided over one election in the community. He was killed on Friday evening when some masked men visited his home and shot him dead.”
Meanwhile, the state police spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, affirmed that police operatives had been dispatched to the area.
Ikenga said, “The police are aware of the development. We got the information and we have deployed our men to the area. Our men had gone to the scene when the information got to us, they found the man in a pool of blood.
“The body of the deceased has been recovered and deposited at the morgue with the help of some of the family members. We are also working with some eyewitnesses and community members to help track the perpetrators and the investigation is ongoing.”
In a separate incident, a 50-year-old man identified as Udoka Eze was killed in the Nawfija community in Anambra State.
DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, spokesperson for the state police command, confirmed the incident, stating that the vehicle was discovered abandoned along Umunze Road with the deceased inside.
He said, “Today 04/1/2023, police recovered an abandoned red Toyota Camry vehicle with reg No AGL 525 GA found along Umunze road.
“Immediate search was conducted in the vehicle, and the lifeless body of a young man with marks of violence and with suspected gunshot injury was found in the car.
“Further inquiries made revealed that the victim is one Mr. Udoka Eze ‘M’ aged 50 years from Iyiafor Village, Owerezukala. He was confirmed dead by a doctor when taken to the hospital and the body has been deposited at the morgue. The investigation has since commenced.
“The Command wants to use this opportunity to call on the witnesses of this incident to come forward with information that will assist in the ongoing investigation and patrols have been intensified in the area.”
