Unknown gunmen abduct Adamawa state Broadcasting Cooperation journalist in Adamawa

    Unknown gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted a journalist, Usman Umar Sahabi, today, November 2, in Adamawa State.
    The journalist was abducted at his home, in Yola in the early hours of today.
    A source gave an account of how the journalist was whisked away by unidentified assailants stating, “About five gunmen stormed his house at about 1 a.m. this morning and forced their way into his room where they whisked him away at gunpoint. So far no ransom was demanded.”
    Sahabi is a staff of Adamawa State Broadcasting Cooperation, ABC Yola, and the Chief of Staff of Adamawa State House of Assembly State Speaker.
    The Spokesperson of the State Police Command, Sulaiman Nguroje, who confirmed the incident revealed that the police have deployed all their operational assets to ensure the journalist is rescued alive.
    “We deployed our operational manpower and worked round the clock to ensure that the abducted journalist is rescued alive.
    “We have not rested on our oars since we learned about the incident and are giving the criminals a hot chase till we rescue the Journalist alive and apprehend the perpetrators,” the PPRO said.
    Meanwhile, in December 2020, 70-year-old Journalist Mike Ndu, from the Oyi local government area of Anambra State was abducted by unknown gunmen. He was kidnapped alongside other passengers at Okene, Kogi state, on his way to Abuja to see his family.

     

    The family raised alarm following a strange call they received, where a ransom of N50 million was demanded.

    Ndu, who had worked with the Pointer Newspaper in Delta State, Enterprise Magazine based in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, The Nation Newspaper, and Madonna FM Radio, Okija, was abducted according to the family.

    His nephew, John Ndu, also, a Journalist with the Anambra State government, said the development had devastated not only the family but the entire community

    He said the septuagenarian boarded a Wazobia commercial bus at Onitsha, to visit his sick wife at Abuja, but some alleged bandits diverted their bus into a bush.

    He said the commercial bus took off from Onitsha to Abuja around 7:20 a.m. on Monday, 21 December.

    “Throughout his journey, his family members were in contact with him, until around 3 p.m., when his phone was no longer reachable.
