Three persons, including a Bokkos University student, were on Thursday night of April 19, killed in a fresh attack on Butura community in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.
According to an eye eyewitness, a 200-level student of Computer Science development was among those killed.
It was learned that the gunmen stormed the community at about 9 pm that day and started shooting continuously.
Eyewitnesses revealed that the killing of the student prompted a protest by other students who were subsequently dispersed by personnel of Operation Safe maintaining peace in the area.
A similar attack was at the beginning of the week launched on two communities in Mangu and Bokkos LGAs where three people were killed.
In March, at least seven persons were killed after gunmen attacked a market in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State.
It was learned that the attack that happened at Zurak Compani Market also left several others injured.
A youth leader in the community, who confirmed the incident said the gunmen arrived at the market around 2 pm and opened fire on the people transacting business which led to the death of the victims.
He said, “The gunmen arrived at the market in their numbers riding on motorcycles.
“They started shooting indiscriminately, killing seven people instantly while many others got injured. The gunmen successfully launched the attack and fled without any resistance because people were not expecting any security threat at the moment.
“The bandits later fled to the bush but police personnel have been deployed to the community to restore law and other.
“But after the incident, we discovered that seven persons were shot dead by the bandits leaving several others injured.
“We are calling for more security deployment in the area because we don’t know what may happen anytime soon.”
