The Nigerian film industry has lost another of its revered figures, as veteran actor Oyewole Olowomojuore, fondly known as Baba Gebu, has passed away.
The sad news was made public by actor and producer Kunle Afod through his verified Instagram account on Wednesday.
According to Afod, the celebrated thespian died on Tuesday, November 11, following a brief illness.
Afod paid tribute to the late actor in an emotional post, describing him as a great legend who left an enduring legacy in the industry.
He wrote, “It saddens my heart as I announce the passing away of our great legend, a great actor who passed away this evening after a brief illness… BABA GEBU, may your soul rest in peace.”
Throughout his illustrious career, Baba Gebu made immense contributions to Yoruba-language cinema, earning admiration for his versatility and mentoring many younger actors who have since risen to prominence.
In 2024, the actor opened up about his struggles after losing his wife, explaining that his return to acting played a vital role in helping him heal and combat depression. During that time, industry colleagues, including Kunle Afod, extended their support to help him navigate his grief and resume his craft.
