The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed the Acting Executive Chairman of the Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service, FCT-IRS, Michael Ango.
The announcement was made through a statement released by Lere Olayinka, the minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media.
Following the decision, the most senior officer within the FCT-IRS has been instructed to assume leadership of the agency in an acting capacity without delay.
Part of the statement reads, “The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has sacked the Acting Executive Chairman of the Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service, Mr. Michael Ango.
“The most senior official of the FCT-IRS has also been directed to take over the running of the revenue agency with immediate effect.”
No explanation has yet been provided for the removal. Ango was appointed to the role on August 9, 2024, with the approval of President Bola Tinubu, as confirmed at the time by the former Director of Press in the Office of the FCT Minister, Anthony Ogunleye.
During Ango’s tenure, the agency reported a revenue performance of N262bn for 2024, exceeding both its target of N250bn and its 2023 collection of N211.1bn.
