The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has issued a stern warning to Setraco Nigeria Limited regarding the completion of the southern parkway road project before May 29.
He delivered this ultimatum on Wednesday, February 14, following his inspection of various road projects within the FCT.
The Southern Parkway road, once completed, will establish a vital connection between the Ecumenical Centre, the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) office complex, the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), and the Nnamdi Azikiwe expressway in the city center.
During his inspection, Wike inquired about the status of streetlight installation on the road, and Ziad Mouannes, the Managing Director of Setraco, responded by indicating that representatives from the construction company would need to meet with the minister to discuss potential variations in the project.
However, Wike adamantly declared his opposition to any alterations, citing that the company had already received 97 percent of the contract sum as per their agreed funding arrangement.
He emphasized his firm stance, stating that no variations would be entertained and that failure to meet the project deadline would result in Setraco Nigeria Ltd being blacklisted.
Wike expressed satisfaction with the progress and quality of the road projects he inspected, particularly commending Setraco’s comprehensive efforts.
He also praised Gilmor Engineering Nigeria Ltd for their commitment to completing projects within the stipulated timeframe, noting the quality of work being done on various road networks.
However, the minister reiterated his confidence in meeting project deadlines and expressed contentment with the overall standard of work being carried out by the construction companies involved.
