A section of Main Street near Winnipeg’s downtown has been closed in both directions as crews battle a fire in the 800 block.
The City says Main Street between Jarvis Avenue and Selkirk Avenue was closed in both directions, and crews are expected to be on-scene throughout the afternoon.

William Ludwick / Global News It says reports of the blaze at the multi-unit commercial building began coming in at 7:43 a.m. Sunday.

At least six fire trucks and a handful of other emergency services vehicles were seen at the location, and crews were spraying the building from the ground a well as using aerial hoses.
The City says firefighters were also working to protect nearby buildings.
Motorists are encouraged to avoid the 800-block of Main Street as Winnipeg Fire & Paramedic Services (WFPS) are onscene in response to a building fire. Northbound and Southbound traffic will need to be rerouted for the time being. Thank you!

One firefighter was injured and transported to hospital in stable condition, according to the City. Neighbouring units were evacuated, however, no other injuries have been reported.
The building is considered a complete loss and the City says heavy equipment will need to be brought in to demolish the structure. A nearby church also suffered smoke and water damage.

Damage estimates were not available, and the cause is still under investigation.
