Former Minister of Defence, Lt. Gen. Theophilus Danjuma has said corruption under the government of President Goodluck Jonathan has been too monumental to ignore, and hence, he urged the incoming government of General Muhammadu Buhari never to spare any officials of the Jonathan’s government found wanting in stealing of public funds.
The former Minister specifically called for total probe of the outgoing government.
Danjuma, like others credible elderstatemen in Nigeria, affirmed that the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan has been very corrupt.
The former Minister spoke to reporters in Takum, Taraba State, while commissioning three newly built bridges along Takum-Katsina Ala road.
The bridges were built by Danjuma at the cost of over N500million.
Danjuma, who expressed dismay that the country’s debt now totals over $60 billion, said he was optimistic that Buhari on assumption of office would probe persons found guilty of corruption.
He pointed out the debt burden was necessitated by the financial recklessness of the outgoing government.
According to him:”What we are hearing is that the treasury of the country is empty at the federal level. A debt of $60 would be left behind for the incoming government.
“I’m calling on the new administration to investigate what happened to our monies as soon as Buhari takes over power on May 29. With that, some of the stolen funds would be recovered.”
Danjuma also urged well meaning Nigerians, including security agencies to cooperate with the incoming government to succeed.
In another development, the former minister has lamented the plight of Nigerians under the outgoing government of President jonathan, contending that many Nigerians had suffered untold hardship under his regime.
He spoke at the 64th graduation ceremony of students of Baptist Theological Seminary, Kaduna, through his representative, Mr John Dara, a chieftain of the PDP.
He stressed that Nigerians were living at a time many conflicts facing the country.
Danjuma said Christians in the north were always the target of disgrace and humiliation out of public offices for no just cause.
He noted that Christians from the northern region have passed through delirious times both politically, socially and economically, adding that the way forward was for the people to unite and speak with one voice to achieve progress and development in the zone
