The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Lagos Operations Office, has successfully received 180 stranded Nigerians repatriated from Libya through a coordinated effort involving multiple national and international partners.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, NEMA confirmed that the returnees landed at the Cargo Terminal of Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, at about 7:00 pm on Tuesday, November 11. They arrived aboard an Air Libya flight with registration number 5A-BAE.
The agency noted that the operation was carried out in collaboration with the International Organisation for Migration, IOM, and other relevant stakeholders as part of an ongoing initiative to safely repatriate Nigerians facing hardship abroad.
According to NEMA, the group comprised 147 adults (45 males and 102 females), 19 children (6 males and 13 females), and 14 infants (7 males and 7 females). Among them, 46 individuals were found to have medical conditions and received immediate treatment from attending health officials.
“Upon arrival, officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service conducted biometric registration and documentation to ensure accurate profiling and smooth reintegration of the returnees into the country,” NEMA stated.
The agency further noted that, in keeping with the Federal Government’s humanitarian policy, the returnees were provided with essential care including food, clean water, medical attention, counselling, ambulance services, and logistics support.
“The seamless and well-organised operation reflects the Federal Government’s sustained efforts to protect the welfare and dignity of Nigerians returning from crisis-affected regions abroad,” NEMA added.
