American-Senegalese singer Akon was arrested recently in Georgia on an outstanding out-of-county warrant and briefly detained before being released, according to law enforcement authorities.
The 52-year-old artist, whose real name is Aliaune Thiam, was taken into custody by Chamblee Police on the morning of Friday, November 7 following a warrant issued out of Roswell, New Mexico.
Jail records indicate that Akon was booked into the DeKalb County Jail, where he spent roughly six hours before being released later that same day.
According to a report filed by Chamblee Police, the arrest occurred after Akon’s white Tesla was flagged by a Flock camera system, which linked the vehicle to an active Roswell Police warrant.
Officer Joshua Rosa, who made the arrest, stated that he located the vehicle parked outside Tint World on Chamblee Dunwoody Road, where Akon was seen standing nearby.
After verifying his identity, the officers confirmed that Akon was indeed the subject of the warrant.
Rosa detailed in his report that the singer remained cooperative throughout the encounter. He wrote that Akon complied by staying calm and acknowledged he was aware of the warrant.
He was then handcuffed, searched, with no weapons or contraband discovered, and transported to DeKalb County Jail before being handed over to detention staff.
The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office later confirmed that Akon had been detained on a warrant and subsequently released.
“It remains unclear what the warrant was for,” the report noted, as no further information on the nature of the charges has yet been made public.
