No fewer than three Nigerians have been arrested in India over their involvement in a drug trafficking syndicate.
The suspects entered India on medical and tourist visas before engaging in the illicit drug trade.
The suspects were identified as 37-year-old Ambemo Victor, 36-year-old Chime Moses, and 33-year-old Karikari Ames.
Operatives of the Anti-Narcotic Wing of the Indian Central Crime Branch arrested the three Nigerians alongside another suspect after intelligence-led operations.
Security operatives recovered 10.27 kilograms of MDMA crystals and 2.044 kilograms of hydroponic cannabis, with an estimated street value of about ₹23 crore, from the suspects.
The suspects were arrested during a raid on a house within the Madanayakanahalli police jurisdiction after investigators acted on a tip-off.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects obtained the drugs from another Nigerian national based in Delhi.
The latest arrests come barely two months after four other Nigerians were apprehended in India over fraud and impersonation offences.
In May, three Nigerians identified as Chinedu, Sunday and Jules were arrested by the Gurugram Police over social media fraud scheme in which they impersonated women to defraud victims, while another Nigerian, 49-year-old Uchenwa, was arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force.
Police recovered 19 mobile phones, one laptop, and 18 Indian and international SIM cards from the suspects arrested in the earlier operation.
