The Adamawa state government has approved development projects worth more than N8.8 billion to advance education and enhance essential services across the state.
The approvals were issued during the council’s 24th meeting, chaired by governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, with the projects expected to improve learning conditions, boost security architecture, and enhance public service delivery.
The commissioner for information and strategy, James Iliya, explained that the approved interventions span critical sectors that have a direct impact on residents’ lives.
A major component of the approvals is the upgrade of the Mega Science Secondary School in Gulak into a full-fledged College of Technological and Innovation Entrepreneurship Studies.
The council allocated N4.66 billion for ten civil works to be executed by ten contractors within four months.
In the education sector, the council approved N285.4 million for the construction of an additional electromechanical workshop at Lamurde Mega Science Secondary School.
Another workshop under Lot B was approved for N221.9 million, both with a four-month completion period.
The construction of additional perimeter fencing at the Lamurde school was also approved at a cost of N449.1 million.
To strengthen sanitation services in Yola, the government approved N264.1 million for the purchase of two Eurodome tipper trucks, which are expected to be delivered within two weeks.
In the security sector, N1.63 billion was approved for the renovation of staff quarters at the Mubi Army Barracks, a project to be undertaken by 12 contractors.
The reconstruction and fencing of state libraries in five Local Government Areas (LGAs), including Numan, were approved at a cost of N584.3 million, with a six month completion period.
Additionally, the council approved N278.3 million for consultancy services involving the design, costing, and supervision of perimeter fencing in selected AGILE secondary schools.
Iliya added that governor Fintiri has directed supervising ministries to ensure contractors deliver high-quality work within the specified timelines.
