Osun state governor, Ademola Adeleke, has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of sponsoring coordinated attacks by political thugs in parts of the state, including Ile-Ife, Ede, and Osogbo, and called on president Bola Tinubu and security agencies to intervene.
In a statement posted on his X handle on Tuesday, June 9, Adeleke condemned the violence, saying no political ambition should come at the cost of innocent lives and property.
“I am sad. I am very, very sad. The commissioner of police in my state is not cooperating. That’s why we keep having problems. Other agencies are trying, but he, in particular, I don’t know what his problem is,” Adeleke said.
He added that there had been shootouts involving suspected thugs, claiming APC involvement and warning against further escalation.
“It is not acceptable. I’m telling my people to calm down. We don’t want chaos. They will start killing. I’ve tried my best to keep Osun state calm, but they are pushing,” he said.
The governor called on Tinubu, Nuhu Ribadu, the national security adviser (NSA), Tunji Disu, the inspector-general of police (IGP), the Department of State Services (DSS), and other security agencies to intervene and prevent a breakdown of law and order in the state.
He stressed that political differences must not degenerate into violence, intimidation, or attacks on citizens, adding that democracy must be guided by tolerance and the rule of law.
The governor said he had visited affected communities and hospitals treating victims, including Osun State Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, and Cottage Hospital, Ede, where he met survivors of the attacks.
He assured victims and their families of government support and directed security agencies to investigate the incidents thoroughly and bring perpetrators to justice, regardless of political affiliation.
Adeleke urged residents to remain peaceful, while reaffirming his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
