The Anambra State Government has demolished the head office of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company, IVM, in Nnewi as part of a major infrastructure upgrade in the state.
The demolition is in line with the government’s ongoing road dualisation initiative aimed at easing traffic and boosting economic activity.
The facility was one of several structures, including schools, churches, private businesses, and transport companies, affected by the project, which spans key routes across the state.
Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing, founded by Chief Innocent Ifediaso Chukwuma in 2007, is Nigeria’s first indigenous automaker. The company is known for producing a wide range of vehicles, including cars, buses, and trucks tailored to local needs and conditions.
While the state government has defended the demolition as necessary for development, it is unclear what form of compensation, if any, will be extended to affected property owners.
