Troops of the Nigerian army have arrested two men accused of aiding terrorists during a security operation in Kankara local government area, Katsina state.
The suspects, identified as Aminu Rabiu Zango, 52, and Alhaji Abdulrahman Tambaya, 52, were apprehended in a joint operation conducted by soldiers of the 17 Brigade and operatives of the Katsina state community watch corps.
According to security sources, Zango allegedly admitted that his son supplies weapons and ammunition to a notorious terror leader known as Babaru, and had recently relocated to Karu, Abuja.
He was also said to have links with Alhaji Iliya Zango, described as Babaru’s superior.
Tambaya was reportedly found with one of Babaru’s active phone numbers stored on his mobile phone at the time of his arrest.
The army said investigations are ongoing to uncover wider supply networks and track down other accomplices providing support to terrorist groups in the region.
