Troops of the Nigerian Army attached to 6 Brigade, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke, have successfully disrupted a kidnapping plot and freed three abducted persons in Taraba State.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by Umar Muhammad, Army Public Relations Officer of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, the operation took place on Monday, January 5, after troops stationed in Jeb Jeb town received actionable intelligence on the movements of suspected kidnappers around Sangai Village, Bachama Ward, in Karim Lamido Local Government Area.
The statement noted that soldiers swiftly moved to the area after the intelligence report and chased the suspects toward the boundary between Taraba and Plateau states.
“Acting promptly on the intelligence, troops were immediately mobilised and pursued the suspects towards the border area between Taraba and Plateau States.
“On sighting the advancing troops, the kidnappers abandoned their captives and fled into the surrounding area,” the statement read.
During the operation, the troops rescued three victims identified as 25-year-old Nimron Umar Ab, 20-year-old Safaras Ibrahim, and 23-year-old Habila Yunusa.
“The rescued victims are currently in military custody, where they are receiving necessary care and documentation, after which they will be reunited with their respective families,” the statement read.
Reacting to the success of the operation, the Commander of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised the troops for their swift response and restated the brigade’s determination to maintain security across Taraba State.
“He further urged members of the public to continue to support security agencies with timely and credible information, noting that such cooperation remains vital to the success of ongoing military operations,” the statement read.
