After over 150 days in captivity, bandits have freed one of the remaining four Bethel Baptist High school students in Kaduna.
According to the report by Punch, this was revealed by the President, Baptist Conference, who is also the proprietor of the school, Rev. Ishaya Jangado.
Recall that the students numbering 121 were kidnapped by bandits in the early hours of July 5, 2021, at the school premises along the Kaduna-Kachia Highway Damishi in the Chikun Local Government Area of the state.
The bandits had subsequently said the students would be released in batches.
The Vice-Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria in the Northern States and Abuja, Rev. John Hayab, at a news briefing in Kaduna on Friday, 26 November, said an additional N5m was paid before the hoodlums could release the student.
The released student, who happened to be the head boy of the school, was said to have been let go on health grounds.
Hayab had stated that the release of the students in batches had been traumatic for their parents.
The Nigeria Police Force had on 23 September, paraded three masterminds who were in the gang of kidnappers that abducted the students of Bethel Baptist School.
One of the suspects confessed that they were 25 in the gang of kidnappers that carried out the operation.
