Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has dismissed speculation about leaving the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, following a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the state house on Friday.
Mohammed explained that the discussions focused entirely on governance and security collaboration.
The governor described reports linking his visit to a potential defection as unfounded.
“I am a PDP man. I am not here for politics or defection. I am here for governance and partnership,” he said.
He added that his visit was aimed at briefing the president on the worsening security situation in Alkaleri local government area, where banditry has escalated due to poorly monitored forest areas around the Daji Dam.
Mohammed said he personally toured affected communities with security officials, evaluated the crisis, and submitted a comprehensive report requesting urgent federal assistance.
According to him, President Tinubu responded positively and has issued immediate directives to provide support.
The governor also emphasized the need for wider interstate collaboration against banditry, suggesting a joint security summit involving Bauchi, Taraba, Plateau, and Gombe States.
Mohammed reiterated his long-standing advocacy for state police, noting that although costly, it would reduce reliance on federal forces and improve accountability among governors.
“We are very ready for state police. We have always supported it because it will reduce the burden on the federal government and make governors more responsive and accountable,” he said.
