Callous you could easily conclude. What will make a man set his wife ablaze? This is the question neigbhours of Keji Osunjirin, in Abeokuta, Ogun State, are trying to unravel.
Osunjirin was alleged to have poured fuel on his wife, Fatimo and set her on fire.
She was said to have died from the burns, neighbours said.
Sources said the husband arrived home late at night with a container of petrol, hours after they had a quarrel. Neighbours claimed Osunjirin attacked his wife after she refused his instructions not to attend a family party.
This was said to have led to altercation between the two of them, which resulted into a protracted quarrel and made the man to be enraged.
After setting her ablaze and realising the gravity of his offence, the man reportedly rushed his dying wife to the hospital but she died from serious burns, sources revealed.
However, Osunjirin was said to have denied intentionally setting her ablaze, sayiing that he mistakenly threw the petrol can on the wife after it caught fire in his own hands.
He said the petrol was meant for his generator.
The Ogun State Police Deputy Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident, adding that the suspect has been arrested.
