The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has announced that Nigeria and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have agreed to resume cargo flight operations.
The minister made this announcement on Monday, May 27, in Abuja to mark President Bola Tinubu’s one year in office.
According to the minister, he had just returned from Saudi Arabia where he met with his counterpart.
He stated that cargo flights between the two countries, which had been suspended, would soon resume.
” I have good news for you from Saudi Arabia. I met my counterpart in Saudi Arabia and we have agreed to resume cargo flights,” Keyamo said.
“We have agreed that we are going to resume cargo flights between Nigeria and Saudi Arabia. This has been suspended for long, but now cargo flights are back.”
However, Keyamo did not specify the exact date for the resumption of cargo flight services between the two nations.
Nevertheless, this development marks another positive step in strengthening the country’s relations with Middle Eastern countries.
On May 23, Keyamo announced that the diplomatic tussle between Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates UAE, which led to a visa ban on Nigerians, has been resolved.
The Minister stated that he suspended the Nigeria Air project and the airports concession due to complaints from government aviation agencies.
In August 2023, Keyamo announced the suspension of Nigeria Air and airport concessions, two major projects under the aviation roadmap of the previous administration.
During a tour of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, Keyamo stated that the two projects would remain suspended until the government reaches a final decision on them.
He explained that the government would take several measured steps before making a decision, including reviewing the projects’ reports, addressing the concerns of the citizens, and identifying any red flags.
