A 38-year-old man identified as Raphael Agu has been remanded in the Ikoyi Custodial Centre, Lagos state, following the allegation of murder levelled against him.
The case was brought before a Magistrate Court sitting in Yaba region of the state on Tuesday, May 6, on a two-count charge of murder.
Agu was accused of stabbing his friend, Stanley Ugo, in the stomach with a knife on May 25, 2023, following a heated misunderstanding between them in the Ogudu area of the state.
The prosecution in the matter, Thomas Nurudeen, said that the accused was given N15,000 by a developer who put up a building around the Transformer Bus Stop in Ogudu.
The said amount was meant to be shared among the area boys, which was done.
The prosecution noted that the deceased and another man, not satisfied with the sharing arrangement of the money, returned to the defendant to express his grievance.
He added that the development led to an argument which turned into a fight between them.
The prosecution explained further that in the process, Agu got hold of a knife and stabbed the deceased in the stomach.
The prosecutor argued that the offence went contrary to the provision of Section 222 and is punishable under Section 233 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos state, Nigeria, 2015.
While presenting a remand application,the prosecution asked the magistrate, P.E Nwaka, to remand the defendant for 30 days until the provision of legal advice from the director of legal prosecution.
Magistrate Nwaka granted the request and ordered the defendant to be remanded in the Ikoyi Custodial Centre.
He also directed that the case file be duplicated and sent to the director of public prosecution for legal advice.
Consequently, Magistrate Nwaka adjourned case till July 5, 2023.
