Award-winning singer Davido has announced that he has withdrawn the legal action seeking joint custody of his first child, Imade, following a heated court session involving the lawyer of his first baby mama and mother to the child, Sophia Momodu.

Davido and Momodu were in court on Thursday, February 12, for a hearing in the custody suit filed by the singer over their daughter, Imade Adeleke.

Proceedings, it was learned, were initially calm before tensions escalated during exchanges between both legal teams.

According to accounts from the courtroom, the situation took a dramatic turn when Momodu’s lawyer questioned Davido’s ability to guarantee Imade’s safety, referencing the death of his son, Ifeanyi, in October 2022.

The remark, it was gathered, angered the singer, who was said to have reacted emotionally and confronted the lawyer during the session.

The confrontation led to a temporary suspension of proceedings.

When the court resumed, the presiding judge directed Davido to apologise to both the court and the lawyer involved. However, the singer declined, maintaining that he could not apologise for what he viewed as the use of his late son against him.

Later in the day, Davido took to his X account to address the situation, stating that the dispute had no real winner and that the ultimate loss was borne by Imade.

He disclosed that he had decided to drop the custody case, adding that his daughter would grow up knowing he stood up and fought for her.
