Three men wrongfully detained by the Department of State Services (DSS) over terrorism allegations have been released and awarded ₦3 million compensation.

The men identified as Umar Ibrahim, Alhaji Bello Rabiu, and Jaja Sarki Bamo were initially arrested in June 2025 but were later found to be innocent of terrorism and kidnapping allegations following a thorough review of their cases.
The DSS director general, Oluwatosin Ajayi, authorized their release and approved a compensation of ₦3 million to address the wrongful detention.
The DSS stated that the current leadership has made reviewing past detentions a priority, seeking to correct errors and uphold justice.
The released men described their treatment in custody as respectful and humane.
“We were properly fed, and we were not abused in any way.
“The officers ensured that our needs were met, and we cooperated throughout the investigation till we were finally released,” Ibrahim said.
In November, the DSS had ordered the release of Kenneth Okechukwu Nwafor and paid him ₦5 million in compensation for his wrongful detention over involvement with the proscribed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB).
