Two pastors and a church member abducted by terrorists in Kaduna state have been rescued by the Department of State Services (DSS) and were received by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) chairman, Rev. John Joseph Hayab on Friday, January 16.
The victims, identified as Rev. Idi Buhari, Emmanuel Jacob, and Suleiman Adamu, were kidnapped while travelling through Kugosi to Sarkin Pawa in Niger state to officiate a wedding ceremony.
Hayab commended the DSS for their courageous, timely, and selfless service, noting that the successful rescue provided relief to both the church and the families of the victims.
He added that the operation renewed hope that criminal elements could be countered through coordinated security efforts.
In a related development, DSS operatives from Niger and Kaduna states conducted a joint operation, arresting three suspects linked to the abduction.
Investigations revealed that the suspects were also involved in transporting arms and ammunition across the Kwara-Niger-Katsina-Kaduna axis.
One of the suspects, Kwalo, confessed that he was misled into carrying a consignment he believed contained tantalite, a precious stone, concealed in sacks of millet.
The consignment was passed through middlemen, Kawu and Iro Malam Iro, before being delivered to an unidentified recipient in Sabuwa local government area, Katsina state.
Payments for the operation ranged from ₦5,000 to ₦50,000 among the suspects.
The Kaduna state commissioner for internal security and home affairs, Sule Shuaibu, praised the DSS for their commitment to protecting lives and property.
He assured residents that the Kaduna state government remains dedicated to maintaining peace and urged citizens to support security efforts by reporting suspicious activities.
