The wife and daughter of the late Anglican priest, Venerable Edwin Achi, who were kidnapped in Kaduna State, regained their freedom on the night of Thursday, January 15, after spending about three months in captivity.
The late Venerable Achi, his wife Sarah, and their daughter Elizabeth were abducted from their residence in Nissi community, Chikun Local Government Area of the state on October 28, 2025.
After spending nearly one month in captivity, the cleric was killed by his abductors. His death occurred despite claims that a ransom of N100 million — said to be a reduced amount from an initial demand of N600 million — had been paid by the family. His body was later discovered in the Kiri area of the state.
Following his killing, Sarah Achi and her daughter remained in the kidnappers’ den, prompting widespread appeals from the Anglican Church, civil society groups, and concerned individuals for their release.
Details surrounding their release remain unclear, as it has not been confirmed whether it followed the payment of an additional ransom or resulted from a security operation.
As of the time of filing this report, neither security agencies nor church authorities have issued an official statement on the circumstances of their release.
