Ebonyi police concerned as three wives are killed by husbands within two months

    The alleged murder of three women by their husbands within two months has left the Ebonyi Police Command worried.

    The spokesman for the command, DSP Joshua Ukandu, admitted to the concern on Tuesday in Abakaliki, the state capital.

    Ukandu said that on September 4, a middle-aged man, names withheld, allegedly murdered his wife, Ugochi, because the she cautioned him about how he treated their housemaid.

    The incident happened at Etim community in Etim Edda Local Government of the state.

    An investigation revealed that Ugochi was attacked as she tried to stop her husband from further punishing the maid.

    Ugochi had three children — a nine-year-old girl and seven-year-old twin boys.

    Ukandu said a similar incident happened on October 4 at Igweledoha, Ngbo Community in Ohaukwu area, where a husband allegedly killed his wife following a domestic dispute between them.

    Also, on October 29, a man, residing on Ogoja Road, Abakaliki, allegedly killed his wife by hitting her with an iron rod in her head.

    Ukandu said that the incidents were unfortunate, adding that the operatives of the command had arrested the suspects.

    He said they would be charged with alleged culpable homicide, wife battery and unlawful maltreatment to housemaid at the end of police investigations.
