The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday, March 25, arrested 30 internet fraudsters during a sting operation at Agbede community in Ilorin, Kwara state.
The operation targeted two buildings flagged as hubs for internet-related fraud activities.
Among those arrested by operatives of EFCC’s Ilorin zonal directorate were six students of Kwara State Polytechnic, who, according to preliminary profiling, were actively engaged in internet fraud.
Items recovered from the suspects include eight vehicles believed to be proceeds of crime, as well as several mobile phones and laptops.
The EFCC clarified that the operation was not connected to Kwara State Polytechnic, stressing that no entry was made into the institution and no academic activities were disrupted.
The commission also dismissed reports linking the raid to any student protest, describing such claims and circulating videos as misleading and inaccurate.
The EFCC reaffirmed its commitment to professional and transparent operations, assuring the public that all channels for reporting unethical conduct by its staff remain open and accessible.
