The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, handed over N3.94 billion to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, on Wednesday, marking a significant recovery of funds tied to fraudulent activities.

According to the EFCC’s spokesman, Dele Oyewale, the handover took place at the commission’s Abuja headquarters.

The secretary to the commission, Mohammed Hammajoda, presented the recovered funds on behalf of the executive chairman, Ola Olukoyede.

During the ceremony, Hammajoda emphasized the commission’s dedication to fighting economic and financial crimes.

He highlighted that the recovered funds resulted from detailed investigations and professional efforts that exposed fraudulent transactions within NNPC Ltd.

“The funds were recovered through diligent investigation and professional uncovering of fraudulent engagements by some actors in the NNPCL.

“On behalf of the executive chairman, we will continue to put ourselves on the line to serve over 220 million Nigerians.

“Along the line, many of our colleagues have paid the price, and others will still pay the price as we continue to do our work with courage and integrity. We will serve and continue to serve this country,” he said.

Receiving the funds, the executive vice president, downstream, Mumuni Dagazau, praised the EFCC for its role in the recovery.

He described the handover as a reflection of effective institutional collaboration and noted that it underscores NNPCL’s ongoing reforms to strengthen its operations.

Dagazau added that the partnership with EFCC demonstrates a shared commitment to transparency and accountability, offering hope for continued cooperation.

The event illustrates the proactive measures taken by Nigeria’s anti-corruption agencies to recover public funds, reinforcing efforts to improve governance and financial integrity in the nation’s oil sector.
