The Yobe state government has donated N10 million in support of families affected by the recent bomb explosions in Maiduguri that left more than 23 people dead.
Governor Mai Mala Buni extended condolences to the government and residents of Borno State, as well as to relatives of those who lost their lives in the attacks.
He also expressed sympathy for those injured.
Currently in Mecca for Umrah, the governor was represented during a condolence visit to Maiduguri by his deputy, Idi Gubana.
In a message conveyed through his deputy, Buni described the incident as tragic, noting that Yobe shares in Borno’s grief.
“Our hearts bleed as innocent citizens, who were merely going about their lawful daily activities, have become victims of this senseless violence,” he said.
He called on residents to stay alert and cooperate with security agencies by providing timely information.
“Security is a collective responsibility. We must remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movements to the relevant authorities,” he added.
Reaffirming the close ties between both states, the governor said the attack highlights their shared challenges.
“Borno and Yobe are one; whatever affects Borno equally affects Yobe,” he said.
While commending the efforts of the federal government of Nigeria and security forces in restoring stability in the North-east, Buni stressed that recent incidents should not undermine the progress already achieved.
To support those affected, the Yobe state government confirmed a donation of N10 million to the victims’ families.
Responding, the deputy governor of Borno state, Umar Usman Kadafur, expressed appreciation for the visit and solidarity shown by the Yobe delegation.
He noted that both states continue to grapple with similar security threats, especially as ongoing military operations push insurgents into urban areas where they deploy improvised explosive devices.
“Such operations often lead to the infiltration of insurgents into urban areas using improvised explosive devices,” he said.
Kadafur urged sustained cooperation between the two states and their residents to tackle the recurring attacks.
“We must continue to work together and support security agencies to find lasting solutions to these challenges,” he said.
He also called on residents to remain united and prayerful, emphasizing that lasting peace in the region requires a collective effort.
The delegation from Yobe state government included senior officials such as the Secretary to the State Government, commissioners, special advisers, and other aides.
