The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Uyo zonal directorate, has launched an investigation into two oil thieves arrested for selling petroleum products illegally in Akwa Ibom state.
The suspects identified as Moses Michael Mufans and Abba Sunday, were apprehended on November 4, 2025, at Ikot Ekpene by a joint task force team from the 2nd brigade Nigerian army, Mbiokporo Cantonment, Nsit Ibom local government area.
They were handed over to the EFCC on November 7 for further action.
The suspects were reported to have been caught while loading petroleum products, believed to be illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), from an underground storage at Olive Field filling station in Ikot Ekpene into a white Iveco truck (registration SMK 185 XB).
Around 19,400 litres of the suspected illegal AGO were reportedly stored in the underground tank, with 3,287 litres already loaded in the truck.

Other items seized included two Yamaha pumping machines, four suction hoses, a Mercedes Benz MI 350 (KRF 287 EP), and a DAF 75 CF (GGE 193 XG).

The items and suspects were formally handed over to EFCC officials by Colonel JK Adisa on behalf of the army.

Receiving the suspects and exhibits, assistant superintendent Taiwo Adetona Habeeb, on behalf of the Uyo zonal directorate, said the commission would conduct a thorough investigation.
Assistant commander of the EFCC, Oshodi Johnson, thanked the army for their support and pledged diligent prosecution of the suspects if found guilty.
