The federal government has commissioned the remodelled Muhammadu Adamu Dankabo domestic terminal at the Mallam Aminu Kano International airport (MAKIA) as part of efforts to modernise aviation infrastructure across the country.
The minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, commissioned the terminal on Tuesday, July 28, describing the project as part of President Bola Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda to improve airport infrastructure and service delivery.
Named after aviation pioneer Muhammadu Adamu Dankabo, the terminal honours his contributions to the development of Nigeria’s aviation industry.
Speaking at the inauguration, Keyamo described Kano as the commercial hub of northern Nigeria and reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to expanding aviation infrastructure in the state.
He disclosed that president Tinubu had approved N46 billion for the resurfacing and reconstruction of the airport’s second runway to improve operational efficiency and strengthen Kano’s position as a major international aviation hub.
The minister also said work has begun on the upgrade of the airport’s Hajj terminal, with contractors already mobilised to the site.
According to him, the remodelling of the domestic terminal forms part of the federal government’s broader aviation modernisation programme aimed at improving passenger comfort, safety, operational efficiency and service delivery at airports nationwide.
The managing director and chief executive officer of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Olubunmi Kuku, said the upgraded terminal reflects the agency’s commitment to providing world-class airport facilities and enhancing passengers’ travel experience.
Chairman of the FAAN Board, Abdullahi Ganduje, commended the federal government for prioritising aviation development in Kano, saying the ongoing projects would further strengthen the state’s position as northern Nigeria’s commercial and aviation hub.
The inauguration was attended by government officials, aviation stakeholders and representatives of the Kano state government.
