Folake Olowofoyeku, an actress best known for her role in the Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS) sitcom ‘Bob Hearts Abishola,’ has been conferred with a chieftaincy title in her hometown of Imo, llesa, Osun state.

She shared footage of the traditional ceremony on her social media pages, though the exact date of the coronation has not been disclosed.

According to Olowofoyeku, she was bestowed with the titles Yeye Oba and Yeye Atayese, which translate to “King’s Female Chief” and “Peacemaker,” respectively.

In the videos, the actress is seen dressed in traditional white attire with orange regalia as she participated in the ceremonial rites.

The ceremony included the symbolic placement of chieftaincy leaves into her crown and the traditional gun-shooting ritual, which officially marked her installation as a chief.

Born in Nigeria to politician Babatunji Olowofoyeku, Folake is the youngest of his children.

She attended Igbinedion Education Centre in Benin City before moving to Vivian Fowler Memorial College for Girls in Ikeja, Lagos, and later studied at Oxbridge Tutorial College.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in theatre from the City College of New York in the United States (US) and has appeared in productions including Death Race 2050 and the television series Bob Hearts Abishola.

Earlier this year, Olowofoyeku spoke about the colourism and ridicule she experienced while growing up in Nigeria, particularly over her facial features and lips.

She said the criticism was a constant part of her childhood but noted that after relocating to the US at the age of 18, she began receiving frequent compliments about her appearance.
