A fire broke out at the Kano residence of former Kano State governor, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, causing damage to a portion of the property.
The incident, suspected to have originated from the kitchen of the Mundubawa house belonging to the former minister of Education, occurred on Sunday, May 5, resulting in the destruction of the living rooms of Shekarau’s third wife, Halima.
While the cause of the fire remains unknown, it was contained to the inner kitchen area on the ground floor of the mansion.
Fortunately, prompt action by the State Fire Service prevented further damage, as confirmed by Dr. Sule Ya’u Sule, Media Adviser to Malam Ibrahim Shekarau.
This incident recalls a similar event in Ogbomoso, where the residence of former Oyo State Governor, Adebayo-Alao Akalao, was engulfed in flames on Monday morning, resulting in the loss of two lives.
Oluwaseyi Awogbile, Sector Commandant of the Oyo State Fire Service in Ogbomoso, confirmed the incident, which occurred around 7:30 am.
An eyewitness, speaking anonymously, suggested that the fire may have been caused by a gas explosion, resulting in fatalities and injuries to other individuals, who are currently receiving medical attention.
This event adds to the recent spike in fire incidents across the country.
Just days prior to these incidents, reports emerged of multiple fire outbreaks in different parts of the country.
In Lagos State, various market buildings were engulfed in flames over two separate incidents. Additionally, an hospital was reported to have caught fire.
These incidents have heightened concerns among business owners and residents, prompting precautionary measures to safeguard lives and property.
