A fire has destroyed over 50 shops and property worth N150,000,000 at Yan Katako Market Rijiyar Lemu area of Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State.
According to the chairman of the market, he disclosed that the blaze commenced around 1 a.m. on Monday, February 26.
He noted that the inferno ravaged over 50 shops containing various items such as plywood, foam, spray machines, chairs, and carpentry tools, leaving many traders bereft of their means of livelihood.
While the cause of the fire remains undetermined, he expressed gratitude to the Kano state Fire Service personnel for their swift response to the distress call.
Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, stated that approximately 25 shops were completely consumed by the fire, while others suffered varying degrees of damage.
He also commended the firefighters for their efforts in extinguishing the flames within an hour of arrival at the scene.
In a separate occurrence, a fire engulfed numerous shops at Orba Market International in Udenu Local Government Area, Enugu state, causing significant losses to traders.
The blaze, which erupted around midnight, consumed sections of the market where various goods such as drinks, foams, gallons, and provisions were sold.
Despite the magnitude of the destruction, swift intervention by the Enugu state Fire and Rescue Service helped prevent further escalation of the situation.
Meanwhile, in Lagos state, another fire outbreak occurred at Dosunmu Street, Lagos Island area, destroying property worth millions of naira.
The Lagos state Fire and Rescue Service swiftly responded to the incident, containing the fire that affected three-story buildings. An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
