31 people have been killed when an explosion caused by a gas leak ripped through a restaurant in Yinchuan, China.
The blast occurred on Wednesday night of June 21, 2023 as footage showed more than a dozen firefighters working at the site as smoke poured out of a gaping hole in the restaurant’s facade.
Nine people including the restaurant’s owner, shareholders and staff have been held by the Chinese police following the explosion. It was said that their assets have been frozen.
Seven more people were receiving medical treatment with one of them in a critical condition as two others suffered severe burns, another two with minor injuries and two had scratches caused by flying glass.
High school students and retirees were among the casualties, many of whom died in what was believed to be due to suffocation likely caused by smoke inhalation.
