Some gunmen have invaded Ejule town in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi state, killing many residents in the process.
A source informed that the gunmen attack came at about 3.am on Thursday.
He explained that a commercial motorcyclist popularly preferred to as okada rider, and the wife of a youth leader in the community were among those killed by the gunmen.
He community source said that the okada rider was hit by a stray bullet while the woman was looking for her husband in the pandemonium when she got hit and died immediately.
He also confirmed the fact that a family house in the town was set ablaze by the the gunmen.
He said that, “I cannot tell the number of the dead now. Two have been identified, an okada rider and a wife of a known youth in the town have been confirmed dead as a result of the early morning attack.
“The situation is still tense, but more dead bodies are sighted on the streets. No one can go out now.”
Commander Jerry Omadara (retd), the Security Adviser to the Kogi state governor, Yahaya Bello, confirmed the incident by simply saying that, “Someone just drew my attention to the incident. I am yet to get the details.”
Reports from other sources in the area showed that some people were indoors while others had fled the town for safety of their lives and family members,while others left for fear of the unknown.
