Gunbattle between soldiers, militants leave 28 dead in Pakistan

    About six Pakistani soldiers and 22 militants have been killed as a result of a gunbattle between the Pakistani soldiers and militant group Pakistan Taliban also known as Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), in the northwestern area of Pakistan’s border with Afghanistan.

    Officials of the Pakistani military revealed that this clash occured in the early hours of Saturday, December 7.

    The clashes occurred in three districts following intelligence-based operations conducted by soldiers in Waziristan and neighboring areas.

    This comes as Islamist militants intensify their assaults on security forces in the region.

    The TTP claimed responsibility, stating that its fighters killed the soldiers by attacking a security checkpoint.

    The group refused to comment on the number of militants killed in the fighting.
