The traditional ruler of Alagamo of Agamo, Oba Kehinde Jacob Falodun, was killed on Wednesday, February 18, after gunmen invaded his palace in Akure north local government area of Ondo state.
According to residents, the gunmen stormed the palace at approximately 7:10 p.m., whisked him away from the compound, and fled the scene with him.
His body was later discovered a short distance from the palace with multiple gunshot wounds.
Eyewitnesses said the gunmen shot him several times before hacking him to death when the gunshots failed to kill him immediately.
The Ondo state police command spokesperson, Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the incident on Thursday, stating that the police received information around 7:50 p.m. from a community leader, Ajewole Clement of New Town, Itaogbolu, that about six gunmen had invaded Oba Falodun’s residence and taken him away.
Jimoh said the traditional ruler was later found lifeless and confirmed dead at the scene.
He disclosed that the divisional police officer mobilised officers alongside command tactical teams and local security outfits, including Atuluse security operatives, hunters, and the Amotekun corps, to comb surrounding bushes and adjoining areas in pursuit of the fleeing gunmen.
He assured the public that efforts to track down and arrest those responsible remain ongoing, with surveillance and monitoring activities intensified across the area to forestall further breakdown of law and order.
Jimoh urged members of the public with credible information to report to the nearest police station, pledging that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.
