Nigerian filmmaker, Kunle Afolayan, has disclosed that he is in the process of ending his marriage, explaining that the move is connected to his desire to practice polygamy like his late father, Adeyemi Afolayan, who was widely known as Ade Love.

Afolayan made the remarks during a watch party for his latest film, where he spoke openly about marriage, family values, and growing up in a polygamous home. A video from the event has since circulated widely on social media.

According to the filmmaker, the divorce process is already before the court and he is prepared for whatever it entails.

“I am in and out of court seeking a divorce. I don’t mind the toll. So I can marry many wives now,” he said.

He traced his perspective on family life to his upbringing, revealing that his late father had ten wives and 25 children, a background he said shaped both his identity and career.

“Without my father, there wouldn’t be a KAP Village or even Kunle Afolayan. I am the seventh child of my father because he had ten wives,” he said.

Afolayan also used the occasion to urge men to think about polygamy or maintaining multiple relationships, stressing the importance of legacy and continuity.
