Immigration Deaths: EFCC Quizzes Ex-Interior Minister Abba Moro

    0

Former Minister of Interior, Mr Abba Moro, was on Tuesday quizzed in the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over the March 2014 employment scam in the Nigerian Immigration Service, which had resulted in the death of no fewer than 20 applicants across the country.

The Street Journal recalls that the tragedy was allegedly caused by Moro, who had put in place a sham recruitment process in which the interior ministry under his watch extorted about N520 million for application forms from applicants, some of whom later died during the stampede that ensued.

Our correspondent gathered that Moro was arrested and made to face the EFCC’s team of investigators who interrogated him on Tuesday to ascertain the level of his culpability in the alleged tragedy and fraud.

Mr David Paradang, the immediate past Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service who was recently sacked by President Muhammadu Buhari was also interrogated on the issue.

Following the incident, not a few Nigerians had called for the sack and prosecution of the duo over alleged involuntary homicide, by ex-President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, but Jonathan was not swayed.

It was, however, not clear at the time of filing this report, whether Moro was released to go home after the interrogation.
