Four people lost their lives on Thursday following Israeli airstrikes on eastern and southern Lebanon, the Lebanese Ministry of Health confirmed.
According to the ministry, the first set of strikes in mountainous areas in the east left two people dead, while two more casualties were recorded in a separate attack in the southern city of Nabatieh.
Local sources revealed that Israeli warplanes carried out a series of intense bombardments along the eastern mountain range in the Bekaa region, near the Syrian border. Two of the strikes were said to have hit the Hermel range in northeastern Lebanon.
The Israeli military, in a statement, said its forces had targeted several Hezbollah positions in both eastern and northern Lebanon, including a military camp and a site for the production of precision missiles in the Bekaa valley.
It added that several terrorist targets in the Bekaa, including a camp used for training Hezbollah militants, were struck during the operation. The military later confirmed another strike on a Hezbollah weapons storage facility in the area of Nabatieh.
Despite a ceasefire agreement reached in November 2024 that ended more than a year of hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah, including two months of open warfare, cross-border attacks have continued intermittently.
The truce had required Israeli forces to withdraw from southern Lebanon while Hezbollah agreed to disband its military presence in the area.
However, under pressure from the United States, US, and amid concerns of renewed escalation, the Lebanese government has initiated efforts to begin disarming Hezbollah, a move strongly opposed by the militant group and its political allies.
