The Islamic State’s West Africa Province, ISWAP, has killed 11 Christians and set ablaze a church in Mondag, Adamawa State, in apparent retaliation for United States, U.S., missile strikes ordered by President Donald Trump on 2025 Christmas Day.
The terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the brutal attack.
Just two days after U.S. forces, in coordination with Nigeria, targeted jihadist camps with cruise missiles, ISWAP militants stormed Mondag, opening fire with automatic weapons. They razed the church and several homes, forcing survivors to flee into surrounding bushland.
Multiple Nigerian security sources have confirmed the massacre, which jihadist propaganda channels celebrated as a show of defiance against the US.
On December 29, ISWAP released a statement detailing the attack on Mondag, reporting that 11 Christians were killed, the church destroyed, and roughly 100 houses burned.
In a subsequent social media post, the group threatened that Christians could only spare their blood by converting to Islam or paying the jizya tax as dhimmi (subjugated people).
