The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has extended the deadline for Nigerian federal universities to complete the admissions process for the 2025/2026 academic session.
According to JAMB spokesperson Fabian Benjamin, the extension comes in response to requests from the Association of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU) and the recent approval of 229 new academic programmes by the National Universities Commission (NUC) on 29 October.
JAMB noted, “Admissions for these new programmes are still being scheduled.”
At a JAMB policy meeting on 18 July, which included leaders of all tertiary institutions, timelines were agreed upon for completing admissions.
Federal universities were initially expected to finish by 31 October, while private universities had until 30 November.
Polytechnics and colleges of education were given a 31 December deadline, following appeals that they only receive candidates after universities complete their admissions.
While federal universities were initially expected to have completed their admissions, JAMB has now set a new deadline for federal and state universities of Monday, 17 November, with deadlines for others institutions remaining unchanged.
JAMB said, “AVCNU has specially appealed for extension due to the disruption caused by a number of factors, including a court order directing that the status quo should remain on the 2025/26 admission list, which was only clearly lifted by the same court on 28 October.
“While expressing appreciation to all institutions for their tireless efforts and cooperation in meeting the initial target date, the board wishes to emphasise that this new deadline is final and must be strictly adhered to.”
